Welcome to Uniquely Me Psychology. I'm delighted that you found your way here and look forward to connecting with you. ♡
As a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, I hold an Honour’s Degree in Psychology (2011) and a Master’s Degree in School and Counselling Psychology (2013).
I am a Registered Psychologist (#967) with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists and hold an Authorized Practice Endorsement, which grants me diagnostic capabilities within my areas of competency (i.e. Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Intellectual Developmental Disorder).
I have spent the last decade working as a psychologist in rural Saskatchewan schools. I began my career providing counselling services to students of all ages before “shifting gears” to pursue an unexpected passion in psychoeducational assessment.
My time in the school system has given me firsthand knowledge of what it’s like for students with disabilities and their families to navigate the school environment. I speak the “Language of School” – From creating IEP (individualized education program) goals to understanding referrals to SLP (speech and language pathology) or OT (occupational therapy), I can not only interpret the acronyms, but I understand these interventions and how they may benefit your child. I look forward to continuing to support families to advocate for their children to ensure they receive the support they need to succeed in the classroom and to meet their potential.
Opening a private practice has been a dream for years, and finally bringing Uniquely Me to life is truly a “pinch me” moment! I am so incredibly passionate about working with kids/youth and their families to ensure that every child not only understands their unique self but knows that who they are is worth celebrating.
I am what the internet likes to call an “extroverted introvert” (not a real psychological term!). While I love getting out and about for good food, connection, and conversation, I equally love cozying up on the couch (with salt & vinegar chips!), watching reality TV (or reading a good psychological thriller), and going to bed early. I love my sleep and will do so as much as my five-year-old allows!
My husband and I went to school in neighboring SK small towns our entire lives but didn’t meet until we serendipitously vacationed at the same resort in Mexico in our early twenties! We officially tied the knot in 2018 and had the privilege of becoming parents to our son, Cade, in July 2019.
During my pregnancy with my son, I began blogging as a passion project and have continued to share online about my experience navigating parenthood as a mother to a child with disabilities (i.e. The Hand We're Dealt). While I certainly have my irks with social media, I believe that it can be an invaluable tool for education and it can bridge physical distance allowing for connection with others walking similar paths.
I absolutely love to travel and am beyond fortunate to have visited some incredible places around the world. Favourite destinations include Italy, Greece, Croatia, Thailand, and Indonesia. I look forward to getting back to travelling once I’m out of my “Mom Era” (Yes, I’m a proud #swiftie).
I could not be less coordinated. Sports have never been my thing, but with one exception… curling! I have been curling since I was twelve and once upon a time did so competitively. Nowadays, I find so much joy in just getting out on the ice for fun.
